Cooperative Studies academicians represent a broad range of disciplines. Cooperative Studies Teaching Fellows are academicians who possess advanced graduate degrees in their field of study, high standards of scholarship and academic excellence, an outstanding record of classroom instruction and a commitment to intercultural global understanding. All Cooperative Studies lecturers possess a graduate degree and most hold an earned doctoral degree. Besides career academicians, CS has been successful in recruiting professionals such as physicians, engineers, business leaders and attorneys with successful career experience, outstanding performance records, and excellent communication skills.
Cooperative Studies lecturers are typically resident at the host university for one or more years. Guest scholars or educational teams are sometimes available for conferences and/or other special lectures.
Cooperative Studies, in cooperation with selected universities, sponsors collections of academic books, videos and journals for the university library. These books are provided by grants from foundations, corporations and individuals.
A business and management collection was provided to Hanoi School of Business by Cooperative Studies in partnership with James Madison University under the leadership of Dr. Roger Ford, who was a Cooperative Studies Teaching Fellow. Several library collections have been provided to universities in various nations around the world.
Cooperative Studies provides assistance and consultation for curriculum revision and development by networking with educators and curriculum experts. Our goal is to combine educational developments around the world with the unique objectives and goals of each nation in order to improve the overall quality of curriculum and education without sacrificing the national, ethnic, or social distinctives of the nation or the people.
In 1997, Cooperative Studies began participating in a historic curriculum reform project in Zheijiang Province in China. Through this joint project Cooperative Studies curriculum experts worked alongside Chinese educators. The role of Cooperative Studies specialists was to provide a perspective on Western education and which methods have been effective or ineffective. In this way they helped develop a philosophy of education within the context of the People's Republic of China educational system. This project was finished in 2001.
Although Cooperative Studies is not a degree-granting institution, it serves the academic community as a catalyst and as a conduit for sharing resources throughout the global higher educational community.
